DEPARTMENT FEATURES<\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

Our department offers a unique combination of two majors \u2013 Urban Planning and Disaster Management, providing the professional training and knowledge needed to tackle countless challenges posed by climate change, economic globalization, urbanization\u00a0and social transformations. We have a number of highly-qualified academics and practitioners working in public and private sectors, who are eager to share their knowledge and experience with you. Our teaching strategy is guided by three core principles:<\/em><\/p>\n

Practice-led Teaching<\/strong>: We recognize the importance of developing practical skills applicable to the real world situations. Hence, we are focused on increasing the number of practice-led learning opportunities in our department. In addition to regular guest talks, our program also features\u00a0local community engagement projects, interdisciplinary practicums and summer internships.<\/span><\/p>\n

Technical Capability<\/strong>: Our department is equipped with advanced facilities. We introduce our students to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and teach them how to use different software tools used in the fields of disaster and rescue planning, disaster prevention and response system management, urban planning, and landscape architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Local & International Activities<\/strong>: We care deeply about our community. We seek to develop a closer relationship with\u00a0local communities to help them to overcome their economic, environmental and social difficulties. We also have a strong relationship with our partner universities\u00a0abroad, and offer exciting student exchange programs in Japan, South Korea, and Mainland China.<\/span><\/p>\n

PROGRAM LENGTH AND DEGREE CONFERRED<\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

The length of our undergraduate and master\u2019s degree programs is four and two years, respectively. However, we also offer an accelerated degree program,\u00a0which allows our students\u00a0to complete both degrees within\u00a0five years. The duration of PhD\u00a0is up to seven years.<\/p>\n

CAREERS AND EMPLOYMENT<\/span><\/h1>\n

Our graduates are in high demand in both public and\u00a0private\u00a0sectors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Public Sector:<\/strong>\u00a0The interdisciplinary nature of our courses and our long-lasting connections with government agencies\u00a0and national research institutes provide\u00a0our students with\u00a0a wide range\u00a0of employment opportunities\u00a0at the different levels of government. A large number of our former students\u00a0now work\u00a0in various local and national government agencies including urban development bureaus, urban and rural development\u00a0departments, public works divisions, the National Fire Agency, and the National Science\u00a0and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR).<\/span><\/p>\n

Private Sector:\u00a0<\/strong>Many tutors in our department come\u00a0from\u00a0private sector. We also have a\u00a0well-established summer internship program.
